Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, defended “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson Thursday by saying “free speech matters.”
Cruz made an announcement on his Facebook page in defense of Robertson, who made national headlines when an interview with GQ was released quoting the reality TV star expressing his views on homosexuality.
“The reason that so many Americans love 'Duck Dynasty' is because it represents the America usually ignored or mocked by liberal elites: A family that loves and cares for each other, believes in God, and speaks openly about their faith,” Cruz said.
Cruz went on to say that “if you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson.”
Robertson was suspended by A&E, the network that hosts “Duck Dynasty,” which has very high ratings, for his comments.

Cruz’s full statement is below:“In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him – but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree,” Cruz continued.
Free Speech Matters
The reason that so many Americans love 'Duck Dynasty' is because it represents the America usually ignored or mocked by liberal elites: a family that loves and cares for each other, believes in God, and speaks openly about their faith.
If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson. Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job. In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him — but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree.
And, as PC enforcers often forget, tolerance is a two-way street. Here's what Phil himself had to say about accepting and loving everybody:
“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."
If you believe on God then you believe in the bible, and the bible has a few things to say about homosexuality. Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by God himself, because it was rife with homosexuality, and for those who say but that was the old Testament and in the new Testament things changed, no they didn't. In Romans Ch 2 of the new Testament say's, No Man Must Lie With Another Man, it is abomination in the eyes of the lord.
Some people might say, times have changed and moved on, would people say that about the Koran? no they haven't, so Muslims continue to do what Muslims like to do best, and that is to Kill. Rape. Honor Killings. Child Molesting. Beating Women and Children. Hanging people. Stoning people to death, and beheading people. Who will stand up against that. NO ONE WILL.
Phil Robertson has spoke the truth, he has said nothing wrong at all. These guys don't need a TV show, they are all millionaires, and they should tell the people who make the show, to go and get stuffed, because they won't brainwashed these guys, no matter how hard they try.
Keep on telling the truth guys, and if they don't like it, leave the show
