PLANS to open the city's first state-funded Muslim faith school have moved a step closer after the bid passed the first stage of the application process.
The team behind the proposed Iqra Academy, in Longton, have been invited to an interview with Government officials next month.

They hope it will pave the way for the free school to open on the site of the former Edensor Technology College in September 2014.
Hundreds of parents have already thrown their support behind the plans and showing there is enough demand for it will be crucial.

At the interview, they are also expected to be quizzed about the school's admissions policy, curriculum and finances.
The Iqra Welfare Trust, which has submitted the bid, has stressed the school will be open to anyone, not just pupils from the Islamic faith.
A spokesman for the school's newly-established governing body said: "Getting to the interview stage is significant. We are building up quite a head of steam of support."
The trust will find out in May if it has got through to the funding stage of the bidding process.
